At times while
working in MS Outlook 2013, users experience that their Outlook stops
responding during typical operations like when you read an email message, move
or remove an email. Moreover, these symptoms are more prominent during
synchronization or during mail delivery. It is seen that these symptoms get
more noticeable as the storage size of your PST file increases. Though Outlook
2013 supports PST file of 50GB, these symptoms are pronounced as soon as your PST
file crosses 20GB and if your PST file gets larger like 40GB, then there are
high chances of its corruption. Therefore, it is suggested to avoid larger PST
files.
An easiest way to
prevent PST file from getting larger in size is splitting a big PST to multiple
smaller PSTs. You can split your PST file through two methods, which are
explained below:
- Select your PST file from the navigation pane.
- Go to ‘Archive’ and click ‘File’ menu.
- In the ‘Archive’ dialog box, click the option to select the ‘Archive’ this folder and all subfolders checkbox and then click a folder from the list.
- Click the date from ‘Archive items older than’ drop-down.
- Click ‘Browse’ and mention the path and file name for the new PST file and after that click ‘OK’.
Professional
PST Splitter Software: If you find archiving is time taking and tedious,
then opting for a professional PST splitter software is recommended. A professional
tool of this category splits large PST file into multiple smaller PST files
without causing data loss or taking much time. Most of the tools provide
automatic PST splitting process by creating the batch file. The batch file has
all the information required by the PST file for splitting and thus splits the
PST file automatically. Most of the tools of this category do not perform the
splitting process on your original PST file instead does this on the copy of
your PST and thus the original PST remains intact.
So, if archiving
does not suit you, or if you think that archiving is time taking and tedious
process, then opting for a professional PST file splitter is the best option for you. A recommended tool is Stellar Phoenix PST File Splitter.
However, opt any of the above-mentioned options and keep your PST
file smaller to stay away from its corruption.
