Microsoft
has been overwhelming all its customers with its innovative developments.
Outlook is one good example of such developments that has been being used in large
number of organizations to allow users to perform various important tasks
within a single application. Multitasking is the most dominating quality of
Outlook that pulls the attention of a good number of users. However, there are
times when the applications just create issues and take users into dilemma
since all the data becomes at risk.
Error
can occur at any point of time in MS Outlook. If error attacks on Outlook email
application then prone to corruption as well as no access at user’s end.
Microsoft
Outlook stores all its information in a data file, known as PST or Personal
Storage Table or personal folders file. The file contains email messages,
attachments, contacts, and everything else you deal with in Outlook. An
important point to notice is that the file has predefined size limit that means
that you can add limited data to the file. The file size is varying in
different Outlook versions and when the data reaches or goes beyond the limit,
the file gets corrupt. This is one reason for corruption, others include
Outlook termination, virus attacks, abrupt system shutdown, and file header
corruption. Consequently, it restricts users to access the application which
results in huge loss of stored data.
Moreover,
when Outlook encounters corruption, it throws various error messages.
Below is a list of most common errors that occur due to Outlook corruption:
- “Errors have been detected in the file Outlook.pst. Quit Outlook and all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox repair tool (Scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in the file. For more information about the Inbox repair tool, see Help.”
- “Unable to display the folder. The file Outlook.pst could not be accessed.”
- “The file Outlook.pst is not a personal folders file.”
- “File Outlook.pst could not be accessed. Data error. Cyclic redundancy check.”
- “Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”
- “Unable to display the folder. The file Outlook.pst could not be accessed.”
- “Outlook.pst cannot be accessed – 0x80040116.”
In
such cases, you need to put Outlook PST repair task on priority. In order to
let you fix PST corruption, Microsoft has provided an inbuilt utility named
Inbox Repair Tool to repair the file. The tool is stored as Scanpst.exe on your
system; you just need to run the file and follow on-screen prompts; it will do
its job.
However,
in some cases, such as severe corruption or problems with the tool itself, it
fails to fix corruption. If you face the same, look for an external utility
(stellar PST repair) to reconstruct corrupt PST file and get access to all the
stored data.
