Outlook Express works in the same way as MS Outlook, but it has fewer options than MS Outlook and stores mailbox data in a slightly different manner. Unlike MS Outlook that stores all the mailbox data on user’s local system in one .PST file, Outlook Express creates multiple .DBX files. The number of .DBX files depends upon the number of folders present in your Outlook Express mailbox, such as Inbox.DBX, Outbox.DBX, etc. All these DBX files are stored inside the ‘Store Folder’ with ‘Folders.DBX’ file as master index file.
